1 lb Dark Beeswax Block

1 Lb Brick - Filtered

This beeswax has a natural deep, rich color. It has been filtered to produce a smooth wax, perfect for any herbalist's apothecary lab. It has an attractive sweet, earthy aroma, yet not too sticky from the residual honey. It is thought that dark beeswax contains antibiotic properties and vitamins that bleached beeswax does not.

Use in making a dark mustache wax, body balms, and salves. Beeswax will begin to soften around 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit and will melt around 145-147 degrees Fahrenheit. To melt beeswax use a double boiler (or any pot that fits into another pot of water) to allow a gentle heat which is important because beeswax can burn. Do not exceed 160-170 degrees or heat for a long period of time.

Making Herbal Salve

Use 1/2 oz dark beeswax per 1 cup of olive oil. Start by combining the olive oil with chopped, medicinal herbs, packed into a large stainless steel bowl. Heat in a 250 degree oven 4 hours. Strain the herb/oil through cheesecloth and return to the bowl. Add the beeswax and heat to melt. Fill sterilized jars.
