Dark Beeswax is known to have a higher concentration of vitamins and minerals. Beeswax will begin to soften around 80-90 degrees farenheit and will melt around 145-147 degrees farenheit. To melt beeswax use a double boiler (or any pot that fits into another pot of water) to allow a gentle heat which is important because beewax can burn. Do not exceed 160-170 degrees or heat for a long period of time.
Making Herbal Salve
Use 1/2 oz dark beeswax per 1 cup of olive oil. Start by combining the olive oil with chopped, medicinal herbs, packed into a large stainless steel bowl. Heat in a 250 degree oven 4 hours. Strain the herb/oil through cheesecloth and return to the bowl. Add the beeswax and heat to melt. Fill sterilized jars. |
