These unusual mahogany pods can be used in wreath designs, centerpieces, and other flower arrangements. They can be secured to dowel stems to work in a vase or simply placed around a candle. After harvesting the pods from Florida Mahogany trees, we coax them to open into these stunning “flower” forms with a special process to keep the “petals” and seeds from flying apart while drying. Afterward they are dipped in a clear lacquer sealer, bringing out a beautiful, textured wood grain appearance. The mahogany pod “flowers” vary slightly in size and “petal” spread, but are generally 3” wide by 3-1/2” in length. Mahogany pods are individually wrapped and packed in shipping peanuts to protect them during transit. Pictured here are some ideas for using mahogany pods in table arrangements. |
