Plant Description / History: Elephant Head Betony is found growing in the high mountain ranges of western North America, particularly the Cascades and High Sierra. Meriwether Lewis made the first collection of elephanthead pedicularis on July 6, 1806 in Montana. This plant can absorb alkaloids from other plants growing nearby. The plants used in our tinctures are never collected near potentially toxic species.

Constituents-Chemicals & Nutrients: Volatile oil (mostly monoterpenes); flavonoids including luteolin and phenylpropanoids; verbascoside and echinacoside.

Indications: A mild skeletal relaxant, Pedicularis groenlandica is most commonly used for joint and muscle pain, or sprains with sharp muscle spasms as in conditions aggravated by a lowered pain threshold from musculoskeletal irritability. For relief of cramping muscle pain, including gastrointestinal cramping, and effective for back pain. May be used for anxiety related to trauma, injury or pain. May be used for insomnia caused by muscular “jolts” when falling asleep or insomnia at first REM cycle with agitation or anxiety.

Adult Dosage:
For muscle pain & cramping - 1 teaspoon of tincture with water every 6 hours or 3 times a day.
For insomnia - ½ to 1 teaspoon of tincture with a small amount of water before bedtime.

Warnings: If dizziness or weakness occurs, discontinue or reduce dosage.
